This review can also be found at Carole's Random Life in BooksI liked this book After having mixed feelings about the first book in the series The Beautiful Ashes I had considered not reading this book I decided to give it a try in the end and actually liked it than the first book in the series I do think that this is a series that needs to be read in order This book picks up shortly after the events of the first book and is really a continuing story I am very glad that I made the decision to give this book a chanceI love the world that this story is set in It is like the world we live in but with a few extra features available to certain people In other words most people don't see the things that Ivy and Adrian see and I like the idea of the something extra In some cases people really just don't want to believe what they are seeing It was rather exciting to go with Ivy and Adrian to all of the realms and deal with so many different issuesIvy and Adrian's relationship takes some big steps in this book I do really like them as a couple and was happy to see things progress for them At the start of the book Ivy did drive me a bit nuts by being a tad dramatic I understood why she was upset but maybe she could have found out why things happened the way they did It just seemed to slow the story down at timesThere were some pretty interesting developments in the overall story I really didn't expect the artifacts to work for Ivy uite the way that they did and I found it to be really creative They spend a lot of this story looking for the second artifact which is a staff We learn a lot about Adrian's history as they search through different areasI did enjoy the narration of this audiobook Tavia Gilbert does a really good job with the character voices which helped to bring the story to life I thought that she really added a lot of emotion to her delivery which made everything a bit exciting I thought that her voice was very pleasant and I found myself listening to the book for hours at a timeI would recommend this book to others I can't say that I like this series as much as the Night Huntress series but it is uite entertaining In the end I found it to be uite enjoyable and am looking forward to reading the next book in the seriesInitial ThoughtsI liked this book better than the first in the series I thought that the narration was well done and very easy to listen to There were a few times that I felt like things dragged a bit but overall it was well doneSource Library via Overdrive

R initial victory has made Ivy a target Sweetest Burn Broken Kindle #212 for revenge forcing her to reunite with the dangerous and dangerously sexy Adrian Ivy isn't sure which will be harder finding the hallowed weapon that will repair the crumbling walls between the demon and human realms or resisting Adrian who's decided that come hell or high water. I read the first book in this series but when I picked up this second installment in the Broken Destiny trilogy I could not remember a single thing that happened That’s what happens when a publisher takes a three years pause between books Even as I continued to read here very few of the details came back to me The good news is Jeanine Frost does such a great job of filling in the blanks even a brand new reader could jump into this book and understand what’s going onThe biggest things you need to know are as follows Ivy and Adrian are destined for tragedy She is the last Davidian He’s the last in their long line of betrayers And betray her he did in book 1 Now he wants to make amends The two of them are in love but Ivy doesn’t trust him not to fulfill his destiny again Meanwhile Adrian will do anything to win her backJust as Ivy had to recover a lost holy artifact in The Beautiful Ashes so too does she have to do it here Now she is searching for the staff of Moses to seal the growing rifts between our world and the demonic one And to do it she takes an around the world road trip with Adrian his BFF her sister and her pet gargoyleI’m pretty sure this series was marketed as New Adult and I guess it is in that the heroine is only 21 and a virgin at the beginning of the book She’s also a bit immature as she faces some nearly impossible circumstances Like how she deals with and thinks about the angel Zach Or her actions that seem impetuous But youth aside she’s an ok heroine She tries to do the right thing and it’s hard to fault her for falling for Adrian when he’s just so deliciousThe book moves fast and it’s easy reading The world building is solid and the action seuences are entertaining and plentiful As for the romance it definitely moves to the next level here It actually takes a turbo jump Which primes the story perfectly for the ending It’s not surprising because destiny is what it is But it made sense and it was in keeping with everything we knew about the charactersI will definitely read book 3 to see how it all ends Fortunately we won’t have to wait that long I’m looking forward to of Frost’s super sexy scenes and good one liners Favorite uote I found the staff And it is mighty — You’re damn right it isRating B ARC provided by publisher

The Sweetest Burn Broken Destiny #2He will make Ivy his At first Adrian tried to resist his feelings for Ivy Now determined to break the curse that dooms their love he's vowed to save her and to have her If only he can persuade her to forgive his past sins But defying destiny and surrendering to the smoldering desire between them will bring conseuences and sacrifices they never imagine. Originally posted at SmexyBooks Sweetest Burn is the 2nd installment in Jeaniene Frost’s New Adult fantasy series Broken Destiny Book one Beautiful Ashes– introduced us to a multi dimensional world filled with demons and angels preparing for war and the one person who can save us Destiny and the Bible claims that Ivy the last Davidian is the only hope humans have to beat back the demons who are readying to inherit the world She meets and falls in love with a half demon prince who comes to help her train for what’s coming only to reveal at the end that he is the last Judian and like the original Judas it is his destiny to betray her At the end of book one Ivy commands Adrian to leave her and he does leaving us to wonder what now The Sweetest Burn opens with Ivy angry that Adrian left her and stayed away with no communication or begging to be with her He does come back though declaring his love for her and determined to prove he will defy their destiny and not betray her Ivy is on the fence but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt Zach their middle man to heaven alerts them to the second hallowed artifact and sets them on their course They need to find the second artifact before the demons do as it is the one item that can stop the walls between the demon and human realms from collapsingFrost’s voice definitely seems louder and settled in this installment I found the pacing smoother and the characterization stronger though the story still dragged in places We seem to still dealing with the same issues from book one though we do get explanations this time around Ivy and Adrian make peace and decide to deal with their attraction and everything else later as they begin their journey to find the second hallowed relic the staff of Moses This leads them on a worldwide adventure that offers readers insight into the reasons behind the war and those that are a part of it The story remains relatively laid back until the last uarter when the action suspense and intrigue explodesIvy and Adrian continue to evolve developing individually and as a couple Ivy remains her tough courageous and snarky self though she whines and makes some uestionable decisions in here What bothered me about Ivy in here is she instantly realizes the things she is doing are wrong and then a few chapters later does it again I did appreciate that she continues to uestion everything But why she hasn’t sat down and brushed up on her bible studies Frost really opens up Adrian in here and I feel readers definitely get to know him better I like his commitment to Ivy and their relationship though he still isn’t being 100% honest with Ivy The use of a dual POV certainly helps Book one felt like Ivy’s book while this one is definitely a joint ventureChemistry wise the passion and attraction between Ivy and Adrian is intense and focused this go around though the soulmatedestiny issue remains iffy for me On one hand it allows Frost to gloss over the development of the romance sort of a cheater in my opinion but on the other hand it does give us a weighted romantic conflict that works well in here As it is right now the physical attraction is still the strongest feature of this romance Also the story still has a distinct YA sound and feel to it; even with the racy scenes Its disconcerting at timesFrost continues to expand her character base adding personality and essentially ‘humanizing’ those considered not human We finally learn what is the motivation Zach’s and Demetrius’s actions and it’s definitely going to make things interesting in the end I am enjoying the religious direction Frost takes here and in the overall premise though as this series is heavily character driven we only learn what the protagonists tell us which leaves you in the dark at times Free will remains an important feature that the book uses to answer or avoid answering certain uestions and situationsOnce again there is a small cliffhanger at the end but nothing too major While I did find this installment stable and developed then book one I still wasn’t as engaged as I would have liked to have been All in all this is a uick read that basically delivers what it promises without much fanfare or expectations on my part Grade C
